School Performance

University Demonstration

"Last year Vinny gave a workshop on African drumming in my course at the University of Notre Dame on "The Sociology of the Body." Starting with the natural rhythms of the body, of heartbeat and breath, he took the class through key ideas of African music, and their intimate relation to the human body. Vinny brought with him numerous African percussion instruments, which allowed the class to participate actively in the learning. We explored "call and response," syncopated rhythms, and other aspects of African music and drumming, as well as the spiritual ideas that motivate the original music. Youth Programs

"It was exciting to see the interaction between the kids, the drums, and Vinny as exposure to a new experience began to become familiar.
